TRE® Prep & Self Care
Self-Care both before and after a TRE session is important
… because the exercises release stored tension and sometimes trauma. It’s important to rest and hydrate both your body and brain to give these newly opened up, stress-free pathways some time to integrate and become your new way of being.
While TRE® is accessible to virtually everyone, group classes are not well suited to those with limited mobility, recent surgery, pregnancy, or a history of severe trauma. Contact me if you have any questions and to find out how we can craft a TRE practice personalized for your needs.
TRE In Person -
Bring some water, wear comfortable clothes that you can move well in and arrive 15 minutes before class starts to have time to settle in. I have all the necessary props and mats in the space, though you are welcome to bring your own yoga mat if you like.
TRE Virtual Set up -
You will need a yoga mat and a couple feet of wall space to lean on. Optional props are 2 blankets and a pillow or bolster, and a chair (folding if you have one, no wheels and sturdy!). And maybe a tennis ball or yoga strap if you have one. You might not need the props at all, but they are nice to have.
Have some water on hand, and make sure you don't do this on an empty stomach. Just a light snack will do.
The pic above is a good camera angle for virtual sessions, just so I can see what both sides of the body are doing to effectively guide you.
Set-up your laptop, tablet or phone camera for Zoom before the session.
Make sure you have a strong internet connection from whichever room you will be practicing in.
No worries if we need to adjust the camera as we go.
Clothing that is not black is preferable. It's hard to see black online! And have some socks on hand too. ❄️
After a TRE session, both in person and virtual-
Be sure to have several glasses of water after the session. Your body has just released tension from your muscles and fascia and it will need hydration.
A warm shower or Epsom salt bath will help release muscle tension and lactic acid buildup.
Extra rest by either taking a nap or sneaking in an earlier bedtime might be needed after your session. Enjoy!
Do your best to be kind to yourself and avoid negative emotional situations for a few hours or a day if possible. This allows your system to stay in a place of peace and safety as it recalibrates to your newly reduced tension pattern.
If after a TRE session you feel extremely fatigued, have more or new body pain, experience a highly negative emotional state (anger, depression, anxiety) or in any way feel worse rather than better, please contact me. We will work together to slow your TRE process down so that you can both release and regulate easily after each session.
